Destination Guide
Everything you need to know about the Nindigully Pub and surrounding area
Getting There
Follow your GPS, but there's two main options - via Warwick or Toowoomba. We recommend the Toowoomba route, with rest stops at Millmerran and Goondiwindi.
Millmerran (2.5h / 213km from Brisbane) has a great cafe, and the BP does the best hot chips around (we don't know what they do to them, but they're amazing).
- ⛽ BP Millmerran
Goondiwindi (1.5h / 140km from Millmerran) is the last major stop before Nindigully and is a good spot to fill up.
- ⛽ All the majors on Boundary Road and Leichhardt/Cunningham Highways
- ⚡ 36-42 Bowen St, Goondiwindi QLD 4390
All up, 5h 40m plus stops.
First time driving in the outback? Here's what you need to know.
- 📵 There are long periods with no mobile coverage (even on Telstra). Download offline maps, music, and whatever else you need before you leave Brisbane.
- 🫨 The highways in the outback are pretty rough. Drive to conditions and keep an eye out for potholes.
- 🦘 Avoid driving past Toowoomba during dawn and dusk. These periods are when kangaroos are most active.
- 🫣 If the worst happens and you're going to hit wildlife (🦅🦘🐂), slow down if you can but hit it if you must. Violently swerving to avoid wildlife can lead to a fatal accident.
- 🚛 Once you get past Toowoomba, road trains are common and overtaking lanes are few. Consider the vehicles length and condition of the road before attempting any overtaking. Road trains are often 36m long!
- 🚜 Give wide loads plenty of space. It's not uncommon to see farming machinery being moved past Goondiwindi, and they're often 4.5m wide loads.
- 👮 The police do maintain a presence on the highways in the outback. Obey all road rules at all times.
- 🤝 Consider carpooling with other attendees. Share the driving (and the fuel cost!).
- 👶 If you're travelling with kids, consider our Outback Bingo card. It's good for at least 10 minutes of entertainment!

Nindigully Pub
“The Gully” is one of Queensland’s oldest hotels.
The pub license was issued in 1864 after operating as shearer’s accommodation for the Nindigully Station. From the late 1800s the Nindigully Pub was a Cobb and Co coach change over station.
Today, the pub still stands in its original condition and position. Located on the banks of the Moonie River, the pub has become a favourite watering hole and camping spot amongst locals and travellers.
The pub is literally full of history. Check out the walls of the bar and the dining room to get a glimpse at times past.
The Moonie River is home to Murray Cod, Yellowbelly, Blue Claw Yabbies, and (unfortunately) Carp1.
Bait can be purchased from The 5 Star Handimart, JCM's Auto & Fuel, and BP in St George.
Fishing lines/tackle/etc can be purchased from Mitre 10, Golders, JCM's Auto & Fuel, and Balonne Sports Store in St George.
1Note that it is against the law to return Carp to the water, alive or dead, as they are an invasive species.
